How Morocco went big on solar energy - BBC Future
Unit 3: Global resource consumption and security → Global trends in consumption → An overview of global patterns and trends in the availability and consumption of energy, including the relative and changing importance of hydrocarbons, nuclear power, renewables, new sources of modern energy.
In pre-Covid times we used to take our students to Morocco (with Discover Ltd) and we were lucky enough to visit the Noor Power Station near Ouarzazate. I think that Morocco presents some really interesting examples, and case studies for use by IB DP Geography educators and students.
Take a look at the ‘Places explored’ section on this page of I always try to reflect on the materials I use in the classroom. A current reflection focus is the ‘global distribution’ of the examples I use. I have been categorising lessons using the UN’s Geographic Regions as they break continents into more distinct groups of countries. I am then displaying the examples, by region, on the ‘front page’ of each unit. Maybe you will find this useful too.

How do you know what you don’t know? is about spreading some of the things that I am finding useful and sharing it in an easily accessible and digestible way.

The first item will be for all geographers based on bigger ideas and everyday geographies. The idea behind the second item is something that is more focused on the needs of IB DP geographers, educators and students. The item will be linked to the syllabus but other geography educators and students may find it useful too. The third section is a quick update on something I am working on. New content added to, or refreshed on geographyalltheway, something I have recently written, or am involved in. The fourth and final item will be a bit more random. It will be a recommendation. Probably a bit techie, an app, an online service, or similar.

The ‘How do you know what you don’t know?’ newsletter is free, and isn’t (just) for geographyalltheway subscribers. I will try to keep the links to content behind the paywall to an absolute minimum!
