How do you know what you don’t know? - Issue #21

Operational notes
A new section for the new academic year. A brief bit about what’s going on to give everything a little more context.
My students returned to school on Monday but I have been in and around school for the last couple of weeks doing prep and ICT type stuff. Here’s to a productive and fruitful year ahead 🍻.
All Geographers
World Migration Interactive Educators’ Toolkit
A really useful resource from the UN international Office of Migration that hasn’t been shared and celebrated as much as it should have been.
Check out the resources, text case-study, data case-study and interactive scenarios that make up each section.
IB DP Geographers
Gary Goodwin (@goodwindraws) • Instagram photos and videos
Not necessarily DP Geography focused - but a lot of DP Geography educators are also involved with the Middle Years Programme (MYP).
I discovered Gary’s work via a post on LinkedIn and I thought it was worth sharing with a wider audience. Gary illustrates visual representations of the MYP command terms and I rather like them.
I have shared this before but I felt it was worth doing so again for new subscribers and those who are early in their DP Geography teaching careers. Since September 2021 I have been recording all my DP class’ lessons on a calendar. It may help others see how I pace my two year course.
This is happening this weekend - but the registration deadline is Thursday (one of the benefits of online workshops). If you are new to teaching DP Geography or you have a colleague who is - I can recommend this workshop. I know the workshop leader rather well ;)
LEGO 10280 Flower Bouquet
I like LEGO, a lot - there I said it! My fiancée therefore needs to at least tolerate Lego and luckily she does. She also has to tolerate the fact I do not buy her flowers very often. However, I have bought her Lego flowers - and they were a real hit. If you need a slightly geeky but romantic gift - look no further than a Lego flower bouquet.

How do you know what you don’t know? is about spreading some of the things that I am finding useful and sharing it in an easily accessible and digestible way.

The first item will be for all geographers based on bigger ideas and everyday geographies. The idea behind the second item is something that is more focused on the needs of IB DP geographers, educators and students. The item will be linked to the syllabus but other geography educators and students may find it useful too. The third section is a quick update on something I am working on. New content added to, or refreshed on geographyalltheway, something I have recently written, or am involved in. The fourth and final item will be a bit more random. It will be a recommendation. Probably a bit techie, an app, an online service, or similar.

The ‘How do you know what you don’t know?’ newsletter is free, and isn’t (just) for geographyalltheway subscribers. I will try to keep the links to content behind the paywall to an absolute minimum!
